The whole Half-Life series is free on Steam

Oh boy, things are getting pretty… Steamy. Valve surprised a lot of people after it announced Half-Life Alyx. Many were even more surprised after they found out that it would be a VR game. Most of the community was sceptical even though the devs and Gabe himself said that it would be a full length game, with a campaign spanning more than 20 hours. But I personally believe that the game could bring about the dawn of VR Gaming as a mainstream medium.

Valve’s VR headset, the Valve Index, which is one of the most expensive VR equipment out there, is currently sold out everywhere. Half-Life: Alyx will be free for the owners of Valve Index. The anticipation and expectations from Alyx seem to be huge. And Valve has added to the hype be making all of the previously released Half-Life games free. But you will have to be quick. The games will be free only until Alyx launches and you won’t be able to keep them permanently. That means you will be able to download them and play them for free only until March 2020, when Alyx releases. In their official news blog, Valve said:

“Half-Life: Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements. The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”

Half-Life games are pretty dated now, but they are some of the best video games that have ever been made and were quite bleeding edge and advanced for their time. So I would suggest you get the games and play them (if you can get past the now ugly graphics).
