One of the many things Xiaomi is well-known for is MIUI, its proprietary Android skin, which has received both positive and negative feedback from users. With one of the most extensive customization options of any Android skin, MIUI is highly praised for its personalization capabilities. Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, revealed Xiaomi HyperOS, an operating system that would first be available on the Xiaomi 14 series, in a tweet today.
It is said that the forthcoming flagships will be on sale by the end of October. Although previous reports suggested Xiaomi would retire MIUI for MiOS, it appears HyperOS will be the name of the company’s upcoming operating system.
Xiaomi HyperOS Launch Date
It has been confirmed that HyperOS will be released with the Xiaomi 14 series, which will be launched before the end of October 2023. The vice president of Xiaomi also confirmed that HyperOS will be available worldwide and will “launch in 2024”.
One of the first questions that probably comes to your mind when you hear about Xiaomi HyperOS might be “is it a standalone operating system or is it based on Android?”
We have seen Huawei introduce its own HarmonyOS to the Chinese market, so the mere idea of Xiaomi developing its own operating system does not seem far-fetched. Lei Jun confirmed on Weibo that HyperOS is based on “the integration of deeply developed Android and the self-developed Vela system, which completely rewrites the underlying architecture and prepares tens of billions of public basis for everything on the Internet.” devices and tens of billions of connections in the future.” So it is clear that HyperOS is not an independent operating system and is based on Android.
Features of Miui 14
Since the announcement is really new, there is no information about what the operating system will look like and what Xiaomi’s plan is at the same time; are they making a less bloated OS for the global masses?
In any case, HyperOS seems like the perfect opportunity for Xiaomi to offer a perfect user experience, a single operating system for all its devices, which would facilitate faster updates, extended update cycles (inspired by the recent announcement of Google Pixel 8). It’s also a great opportunity for the company to create products and build the ecosystem that Xiaomi is known for, but it just can’t integrate all the products as smoothly as other manufacturers.
