New Update
YouTube

Everybody’s favorite video streaming app Youtube is undergoing a huge makeover. The California based video platform has revamped its look with a new logo and desktop and app re-design. Neal Mohan, Chief Product Officer, YouTube in an official blog said, “We know this is a lot of change, but we want to make clear that there’s one thing that stays the same: YouTube’s mission. We’re here to give people a voice and show them the world – no matter what device they use.”

what’s new in Youtube?

Firstly, the desktop redesign introduced in May is now the default instead of an opt-in beta. Youtube’s new desktop design applies Material design to the platform and delivers a fresh, simple and intuitive user experience that lets content take a front seat. The new website has a dark theme. The dark theme darkens the white parts of your screen so you can easily enjoy a more theatre-like atmosphere as you watch your favorite YouTubers!

This time, however, its the mobile app that gets a new design. The header is now white to let content take the lead. The navigation tabs are moved to the bottom of the app.  A new Library is added while account tabs are also available for easy access. Users can control the playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the playback of a video similar to how you can on the desktop.

The YouTube player will soon seamlessly change shape to match the video format the user is watching, such as vertical, square or horizontal to get the best viewing experience automatically. Users will get to browse and discover while watching videos.

New Logo

The big highlight of the YouTube’s makeover is its new logo, designed for the multi-screen world. The updated logo combines a cleaned-up version of the Youtube wordmark and icon that works better across a variety of devices. The new logo and icon have been rolled out across mobile and desktop already, while all other apps and services will see the update soon.

“When YouTube launched 12 years ago, it was a single website that supported one video format, 320×240 at 4:3 aspect ratio.

“Fast forward to today, and YouTube lets you watch any combination of SD, HD, 4K, 360, 3-D, and live video on nearly every device with an internet connection – from desktops to phones, tablets to TVs, game consoles, and even VR headsets,” said Neal Mohan.
